"And Still I Rise", (Maya Angelou) reflects the hope and the disappointment felt by so many of us, as we watched the election returns on November 8, 2016 at the Javits Center. This cascading confetti is the actual confetti, which had been loaded into air cannons and was poised to swirl down on us, as we anticipated celebrating the election of the first woman to become President of the United States.

This installation was created to inspire, to motivate, to give us the courage and vision to act and to resist when needed. It is a reminder that elections matter, and have serious consequences, and that women’s rights, voting rights, all of our rights need to be fostered and protected.

With this confetti as my metaphor, I hope to empower young women and girls to be bold, to dream big, to believe in themselves, to break their own glass ceilings…. and to finally break that highest, hardest one.
