About the Series

And Still I Rise (Maya Angelou) reflects the hope and disappointment felt by so many as we watched the election results on November 8, 2016 at the Javits Center in New York City. This swirling confetti is the actual confetti that had been loaded into the air cannons and was poised to cascade down on us as we celebrated the election of the first woman to become President of the United States.

This installation was created to inspire, to motivate, and to give us the courage  and vision to act and to resist when needed. It is a reminder that elections matter and have serious consequences, and that women’s rights, voting rights, and all of our rights need to be fostered and protected.

With this confetti as my metaphor, I hope to empower young women and little girls to be bold, to dream big, to believe in themselves, to break their own glass ceilings … and to finally break that highest, hardest one.
